Nine charged in largest known computer hacking and securities fraud scheme — Nine people were charged with devising an international scheme to hack into business newswires and steal yet-to-be published press releases containing non-public financial information that was then used to make trades, reaping dozens of hackers and traders more than $100 million in illegal proceeds.  NYT

Whistleblower says Medicare Advantage Plans padded charges in home visits — A whistleblower case in Texas accuses a medical consulting firm and more than two dozen health plans for the elderly of ripping off Medicare by conducting in-home patient exams that allegedly overstated how much the plans should be paid.   NPR

Tech company settles False Claims Act case for $5.9M — PC Specialists Inc., doing business as Technology Integration Group, has agreed to pay the US $5.9 million to settle allegations that the company inflated the price of computers sold to the National Nuclear Security Administration for use at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  DOJ

HD Supply Waterworks pays $5M to settle False Claims Act case – HD Supply Waterworks — the Nation’s largest supplier of water, sewer, fire protection and storm drain products – has agreed to pay $5M to resolve FCA allegations that it participated in a scheme designed to take advantage of the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise program in order to obtain subcontracts on federally-funded projects.   NDNY

D.C. Circuit takes broad view of attorney privilege, bails out KBR – again — For the second time in 14 months, the District of Columbia U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has rescued KBR from having to turn over documents from an internal investigation of kickback allegations to a whistleblower suing the company under the False Claims Act.  Reuters
