Community Health Systems to pay $98M — The country’s largest operator of acute care hospitals has agreed to the payment to settle multiple whistleblower lawsuits alleging it violated the False Claims Act by billing Medicare and Medicaid for inpatient services that should have been billed at a lower rate for outpatient or observation services.  DOJ

UNC whistleblower accused of plagiarism —  Mary Willingham, the former UNC learning specialist behind the UNC academic/athletic fraud scandal, is now being accused of plagiarizing portions of her Master’s thesis paper on “Academics and Athletics.”  NewsObserver

Is a subprime auto loan crisis around the corner? — Federal prosecutors have begun a civil investigation into subprime auto lending, focusing on the packaging and selling of questionable loans to investors, citing concerns that checks and standards are being neglected as the market surges.  NYT

CFTC secures $13M fine for crude oil manipulation — The commodities regulator obtained the penalty from Parnon Energy of California, Arcadia Petroleum of the United Kingdom, and Arcadia Energy of Switzerland for their alleged manipulation of NYMEX crude oil futures contracts.  CFTC

Criminal charges filed against owner of doping clinic — Anthony Bosch, owner of the Biogenesis clinic at the center of the Major League Baseball doping scandal, is to appear in court today to face the charges.  Chicago Tribune
