Canada to set up Dodd-Frank like whistleblower program? — The Ontario Securities Commission is seeking public input on how to design a whistleblower program that would protect whistleblowers from retaliation and pay them up to $1.5 million for providing tips on securities crimes that lead to major prosecutions. John Kiriakou released from prison — Kiriakou, who was sentenced to 30 months in prison after disclosing the CIA’s post-9/11 torture tactics to the press, was released Tuesday to serve the rest of his sentence under house arrest. RT

Phoenix VA whistleblower claims retaliation — A whistleblower who has spoken out against the Phoenix VA hospital says he has been retaliated against by being placed on administrative leave allegedly for blowing the whistle on the way in which VA staffers have been handling suicides. ABC News

Whistleblower files FCA case against Cardinal Health — Cardinal Health said a whistleblower filed a False Claims Act case accusing it and several other manufacturers and distributors of fraud relating to the marketing and sale of ostomy and continence care products. Reuters

Home health agency owner sentenced for role in fraud scheme — The owner of Professional Medical Home Health LLC was sentenced to 10 years in prison today in connection with a long-running $6.2 million Medicare fraud scheme where the company billed Medicare for home health and therapy services that were not medically necessary or were not provided. Injunction issued against cardiovascular device companies for adulterated and misbranded products — A U.S. court entered a consent decree of permanent injunction against several manufacturers, including Atrium Medical Corporation and Maquet Holding B.V. & Co. KG, to settle allegations that defendants deviated from the FDA’s current good manufacturing practice requirements for medical devices which resulted in adulterated and misbranded medical devices introduced into the market.
