Homeland Security whistleblower speaks out — Senior Special Agent Taylor Johnson testifies before Senate that her Homeland Security investigation uncovered visa applicants from China, Russia, Pakistan and Malaysia who had been approved in as little as 16 days, even though their applications “lacked basic necessary law enforcement” screening.  ABC News

UNC on probation for academic fraud — UNC was given a 12-month probation by its accrediting commission after a review into an academic fraud scandal at the school in which the Chapel Hill school was found to have violated seven standards, including integrity, control of intercollegiate athletics, and academic freedom.  Reuters

Interpol suspends 20M Integrity in Sport agreement with FIFA — Interpol said it was suspending the use of funds it gets from FIFA for its ‘Integrity in Sport’ program in light of ongoing investigations into corruption against world soccer’s governing body.  Reuters

IRS, tax-preparation firms join forces to combat return fraud — The Internal Revenue Service is working with states and tax-preparation firms to find new ways to strengthen security of the tax-filing system, after criminals this year used increasingly sophisticated strategies to commit stolen-identity refund fraud.  WSJ

Hanford whistleblower settles with contractor – Shelly Doss, a whistleblower on the Hanford Nuclear Reservation, has reached an undisclosed settlement with Washington River Protection Solutions, the contractor who operates the site’s nuclear waste tank farms.  King 5

Nurse loses whistleblower suit over suspected drug use — A federal appeals court has affirmed the dismissal of a whistleblower-retaliation suit against a Maine nursing home, saying the plaintiff failed to prove she was fired for telling her supervisor she believed a fellow nurse was using or stealing drugs.  Reuters
