Five air-traffic controller whistleblowers step forward — According to the Office of Special Counsel, which expressed “deep gratitude” for the whistleblowers, they exposed a problem where pilots, air traffic control centers or airline dispatchers try to make changes to a flight plan by creating a second plan for the same flight.  PBS

Florida hospital district to pay $69.5M to settle whistleblower charges — The government and whistleblower allege North Broward Hospital District violated the False Claims Act by engaging in improper financial relationships with referring physicians.  DOJ

LA surgeon accused of insurance fraud involving unnecessary operations — “Dr. Munir Uwaydah and 14 associates, including another doctor and a lawyer, bilked insurance companies out of $150 million in the scheme, Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey said.”  CBS

Former National official sentenced in corruption scheme — “Raytosha Elliott, a former contracting official with the Georgia National Guard, and the owners of two vendor companies have been sentenced to federal prison for a corruption scheme wherein Elliott awarded contracts to the vendors in exchange for illegal kickbacks.”  FBI

FDA bans sales of 4 cigarette products by RJ Reynolds — The agency says it halted the sale because the company failed to prove the cigarettes were not more harmful than products already on the market as required under a 2009 federal law.  NYT
