Health services contractor settles FCA case for $3.8M — Comprehensive Health Services settled allegations it double-billed the IRS in connection with work performed on a healthcare services contract under which the company provided special agents’ pre-placement medical examinations. The fraud was brought to light by a whistleblower, who will receive a $645K reward. USAO Maryland

South Dakota House approves whistleblower protections – A coalition of Republicans and Democrats approved legislation prohibiting retaliation against South Dakota state and local employees who blow the whistle to legislators, legislative auditors, or state constitutional officers; the vote was 62-5 in favor of the bill. UK foreign aid fraud investigations quadrupled over last five years – The UK’s National Audit Office (NAO) notes that reforms aimed at increasing funding assigned to “unstable nations” has increased the risk of wrongdoing, especially in light of the fact UK aid money is frequently routed through third party organizations and doled out in countries where “bribery can be seen as a ‘cultural norm’.” The Guardian
