Attorney lodges first case ever to test whistleblower protections under Australia’s Corporations Act — Sally McDow, a lawyer and former senior compliance officer with Australia’s Origin Energy, alleges that Origin has serious compliance failures in its gas and oilfields, and victimizes and intimidates anyone who dares to speak out about them.  The case is expected to spotlight Australia’s existing whistleblower protections at a time when those protections are being debated heavily in parliament and the media.  The Sydney Morning Herald

Judge delays sentencing for nurse involved in opioid kickback scheme — A federal judge in Connecticut has agreed to delay sentencing of a nurse who pleaded guilty to accepting kickbacks in exchange for prescribing the powerful opioid Subsys, a common brand of fentanyl.  The nurse is cooperating in “numerous ongoing criminal investigations.”  Hartford Courant

Federal Trade Commission slams smartphone breathalyzer for false advertising — The FTC has reached a settlement with Breathometer, which falsely claimed that “government-lab grade testing” had proven the efficacy of its products.  The settlement bars the company from making future claims about the accuracy of its smartphone breathalyzer.  FTC
