Two shipping companies settle Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships violations for $1.9M  Two shipping companies settled allegations they dumped oily waste into the ocean and then engaged in a cover-up. The investigation began when a crew member blew the whistle and informed the Coast Guard that his ship was dumping oil into the Gulf of Mexico.
