It’s easy money: Lab offers doctors up to $144,000 a year to push dubious genetic tests, employees say – Proove Biosciences allegedly offered doctors $30 for every patient they enrolled in a clinical trial, supposedly designed to help select the best pain medication for each patient. “Proove has grown rapidly by tapping into the public angst over surging opioid addiction. It is one of many companies touting personalized DNA-based tests backed by little or no credible scientific data showing their reliability.” Stat News

This year’s IRS audits are bad news for the rich – “The number of audits conducted by the Internal Revenue Service has dropped as it continues to reel from years of budget cuts. But even as its workforce shrinks, the agency must keep the money flowing into the U.S. Treasury. The solution in 2017? Focus on target-rich environments, and squeeze more dollars out of each audit.”  Bloomberg

Humana Medicare Advantage FCA suit has legs, judge says – A federal magistrate judge this week recommended denying Humana’s summary judgment motion, concluding that a jury could find the whistleblower’s allegations credible. The FCA suit alleges Humana ignored suspicious Medicare Advantage billing and disregarded its obligation to return overpayments to the government.  Law360
