DOJ Reaches $89 Million Settlement with Financial Freedom — “Financial Freedom has agreed to a settlement with the United States of more than $89 million to resolve allegations that it violated the False Claims Act and the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act of 1989 in connection with its participation in a federally insured Home Equity Conversion Mortgages or ‘reverse mortgage’ program.” DOJ

Fourth Circuit Reaffirms FCA Case Post-Escobar   A Fourth Circuit panel unanimously held that the government could bring a False Claims Act case alleging a defense contractor used unqualified guards under a $10 million contractor for security services in Iraq. Fourth Circuit
