Rolls-Royce middlemen may have used bribes to land major contracts — Rolls-Royce allegedly hired a network of agents to help it land lucrative contracts in at least 12 different countries around the world, sometimes allegedly using bribes. An investigation has uncovered leaked documents and testimony from insiders that suggest that Rolls-Royce may have benefited from the use of illicit payments to boost profits for years. The Guardian

NC Businessman pleads guilty to misappropriating millions from NFL players — Michael Rowan, through his financial services businesses, contacted prospective NFL Players in college to offer them financial and wealth management services. Once a player was drafted by the NFL, Rowan directed his clients to execute an agreement that allowed Rowan access to the clients’ bank accounts, which he used to transfer over $2.9 million for his own personal benefit and without his clients’ authorization or knowledge. DOJ

$2M settlement in whistleblower case that allowed mayor to skip testimony — Chicago aldermen agreed to pay $2 million to two whistleblower cops who said they were blackballed in the Police Department for helping to investigate corrupt officers, a settlement that was reached with the city shortly before Mayor Rahm Emanuel would have been forced to take the witness stand in the case. SEC settles with auditor in NYC suburb’s bond fraud case — A New York auditor on Monday settled SEC charges that it issued fraudulent audit reports in connection with municipal bond offerings by the town of Ramapo, New York, and its local development corporation. The SEC said PKF O’Connor Davies and senior partner Domenick Consolo let Ramapo record in 2009 a $3.08 million receivable in its general fund for the sale of a 13.7-acre property, despite knowing that the sale had not occurred.
