CFTC to issue whistleblower award of approximately $290,000 — The CFTC issues its second reward under the CFTC Whistleblower Program. In the announcement of the award, the Director of the CFTC’s Whistleblower Office promises, “We are committed to whistleblowers, and we value the information that they provide.” CFTC
Nursing homes bill for more therapy than patients need, U.S. Says – “Nursing homes receive far more in Medicare payments than it costs them to provide care, exploiting the billing system in some cases by giving patients more therapy services than they need, federal investigators said in a new report.” NYT

Fraudulent ambulance rides: Medicare paid more than $50 million, IG says – Over the course of 6 months, Medicare paid more than $50 million in potentially improper bills from ambulance companies for rides for older Americans, including $30 million in payments despite an absence of evidence that the patients received care at their destinations and another $24 million in payments for rides to and from destinations for which Medicare will not pay for ambulance transportation. Whistleblower cop settles for $600K in NYPD quota suit – “The NYPD cop who claimed he was thrown into Jamaica Hospital’s psychiatric ward for almost a week because he turned whistleblower to accuse his fellow cops of following a quota system for arrests and summonses has settled his lawsuit against the city for $600,000, court papers state.” New York Post
