Credit Suisse probe opens old wounds – “Less than three years after Credit Suisse Group AG paid billions and pleaded guilty to aiding tax evasion through its desk serving American clients, the Swiss bank is a focus of a sprawling new investigation into whether another unit kept doing the same thing.  The latest probe could lead to an indictment of Credit Suisse, fresh penalties or a potential curtailing of some business, among other options, people familiar with the matter said—and highlights the difficulties prosecutors face in fulfilling promises to crack down on corporate misconduct.” The Wall Street Journal

Company to pay $9.5 million for false reporting of safety inspections and Clean Water Act violations that led to explosion in Gulf of Mexico – “Wood Group PSN was ordered to pay $7 million for falsely reporting over several years that personnel had performed safety inspections on offshore facilities in the Gulf of Mexico in the Western District of Louisiana, and $1.8 million for negligently discharging oil into the Gulf of Mexico in violation of the Clean Water Act after an explosion on an offshore facility in the Eastern District of Louisiana.” Department of Justice

North Carolina squandered millions for prison mental health reform, whistleblower says – “In a scathing report to N.C. lawmakers, a retired prison psychologist contends that the state’s efforts to reform mental health for inmates has instead squandered millions of tax dollars while endangering inmates and prison workers.” Charlotte Observer.
