Whistleblower bill sparks fear among advocates – The Financial CHOICE Act 2.0, which passed the House Financial Services Committee last week, has drawn criticism from corporate whistleblowers, lawyers, and advocates who point to little-noticed provisions that would water down protections and incentives for those who speak on corporate wrong doing. Malaysian whistleblower program providing underwhelming results, despite incentives – Despite the Malaysian government’s incentives aimed at encouraging civil servants to report cases of bribery, less than .001% of Malaysian government bureaucrats have done so, and since 2011, the government has given out only 162 awards. City of Charlotte must pay whistleblower $1.5M in retaliation suit – Former Charlotte fire investigator Crystal Eschert, who was promptly fired by the city’s fire department after raising questions about the safety of construction work at a new office building, will receive $1.5M. The city claimed Eschert’s firing was related to an inflammatory Facebook post, an argument the jury rejected. Charlotte Observer
