Whistleblower bill sparks fear among advocates The Financial CHOICE Act 2.0, which passed the House Financial Services Committee last week, has drawn criticism from corporate whistleblowers, lawyers, and advocates who point to little-noticed provisions that would water down protections and incentives for those who speak on corporate wrong doing. Malaysian whistleblower program providing underwhelming results, despite incentives – Despite the Malaysian government’s incentives aimed at encouraging civil servants to report cases of bribery, less than .001% of Malaysian government bureaucrats have done so, and since 2011, the government has given out only 162 awards. City of Charlotte must pay whistleblower $1.5M in retaliation suit – Former Charlotte fire investigator Crystal Eschert, who was promptly fired by the city’s fire department after raising questions about the safety of construction work at a new office building, will receive $1.5M. The city claimed Eschert’s firing was related to an inflammatory Facebook post, an argument the jury rejected. Charlotte Observer
