Whistleblower: Bannon Sought To Suppress African-American Voters While at Cambridge Analytica

Forbes reports on the continuing Facebook-Cambridge Analytica data scandal with former Cambridge Analytica employee and whistleblower Christopher Wylie testifying before the Senate Intelligence Committee last Wednesday. Wylie testified that Cambridge Analytica attempted to suppress African-American voters and other liberal-associated demographic groups with “voter disengagement methods.” Wylie testified that this project was in part led by Steve Bannon, former advisor and campaign chairman to President Donald Trump.

Wylie was asked by Senator Chris Coons of Delaware if one of Bannon’s goals at Cambridge Analytica was to “suppress voting or discourage certain individuals in the U.S. from voting.” Wylie responded affirmatively stating that was his understanding of the goals. Wylie later spoke with CNN and detailed similar information but did not provide any specific evidence of voter suppression campaigns in the United States. Wylie also commented that the “voter disengagement” campaigns in part fueled his desire to leave Cambridge Analytica.

One example cited by Wylie was “Facebook posts were targeted at some black voters reminding them of Hillary Clinton’s 1990s description of black youths as ‘super predators’, in the hope it would deter them from voting.” For its part, Cambridge Analytica has continually denied any wrongdoing and announced its shutdown earlier this month due to it being “vilified” after Wylie’s various public statements and testimonies.

The New York Times reported that the firm has been under investigation by the FBI and the United States DOJ.

Typical mainstream media reporting. The example cited by Wylie in the article is dissuading African-Americans from voting FOR HILLARY, not to suppress their voting entirely. Wylie sounds less like a whistleblower and more like a disgruntled liberal.
