Joel A. Chernov

Joel is a partner in the New York City office of Constantine Cannon.  His practice focuses on sophisticated commercial litigation and alternative dispute resolution, generally concerning business disputes and matters in the areas of breach of contract, employment, securities, and professional liability.

Joel has tried, argued, and litigated cases in federal and state courts, in arbitrations, and before governmental and self-regulatory agencies.

Before joining the firm, Joel was a partner with Dreier LLP where he obtained judgments in excess of $600 million on behalf of holders of bonds issued by the Republic of Argentina and the Province of Buenos Aires.  He also successfully tried an action on behalf of Nomura Asset Securitization Corporation involving a $1.8 billion commercial mortgage-backed securities transaction in which the plaintiff demanded that Nomura repurchase a pool of more than 150 loans.  Joel is currently representing Nomura in various residential mortgage-backed securities “put back” actions.

Before joining Dreier LLP, Joel was with Parker Chapin LLP where he concentrated his practice in securities and accountant liability litigation.  Joel represented the officers, directors, and employees of The Leslie Fay Companies in federal court, before the Securities and Exchange Commission, and before governmental agencies in connection with the Leslie Fay Class Action Securities lawsuit.

Joel received his law degree from Cornell Law School, where he was a Note and Comment Editor for the International Law Journal.  Joel received a Bachelor of Arts from Brown University.

Joel is admitted to practice in New York; the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of N.Y.; the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of N.Y.; and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
