Constantine Cannon Announces Winners of Fourth Whistleblower Essay Contest

Last year, Constantine Cannon launched its Fourth Scholarship Essay Contest on the Importance of Whistleblowers. We enjoy hearing what law school students have to say about whistleblowers and highlighting the critical role whistleblowers play in our society. We are also thrilled to offer this scholarship opportunity to support the next generation of lawyers.
We asked for essays between 250 and 750 words that addressed one or more of the following whistleblower subjects:
- What it means to be a whistleblower.
- A whistleblower act you personally have experienced.
- A whistleblower who has inspired you.
- The importance of whistleblowers in promoting transparency and protecting the health and safety of the public.
Students’ essay topics ranged from reflecting on profound personal experiences with whistleblowing and how whistleblowers impacted their lives to insight on tackling negative perceptions of whistleblowers, and how to foster a culture where whistleblowers are hailed as heroes.
Rounds of applause and many thanks to all students who participated in our contest. While all the essays were meaningful and well-crafted, we only could select five winners. This was no easy task. Especially since this time around, we received a record number of submissions.
Without further ado, here are the five winners whose essays we found best encapsulated the essence of whistleblowers — demonstrating their courage, strength, integrity, selflessness, and great concern for public health and safety.
- First Place: Hala Arnouk – Harvard Law School
- Second Place: Danitza Ceccarelli – New York Law School
- Third Place: Taylor Colvin – University of Georgia School of Law
- Fourth Place: Cynara Onyemordi – University of British Columbia’s (UBC) Allard Law School
- Fifth Place: Alicia Terrero – New York University School of Law
Congratulations to this outstanding group! We hope you enjoy their winning essays, which we will post in the coming weeks. Thanks again to all who participated in this year’s contest. And for those who did not participate, we invite you to enter our freshly launched Fifth Scholarship Contest. We cannot wait to read more of your wonderful essays.
