CFTC Announces Second Whistleblower Award

Posted  October 1, 2015

By the C|C Whistleblower Lawyer Team

The CFTC announced its second ever whistleblower award yesterday under the agency’s Dodd-Frank whistleblower program.  The anonymous whistleblower will receive roughly $290,000 for reporting information about violations of the Commodity Exchange Act that led to an  enforcement action.  This award follows nearly a year and a half after the CFTC announced its first whistleblower award in May 2014 for $240,000.

Director of the Division of Enforcement, Aitan Goelman, said “receiving high quality information from whistleblowers is an essential part of the CFTC’s overall enforcement program.  Such information allows the staff to bring cases more quickly and with fewer agency resources, and we will continue to provide financial incentives for people with specific and credible information about violations of the CEA to come forward.”  The sentiment is echoed by Director of the CFTC’s Whistleblower Office, Christopher Ehrman, who stated that the CFTC’s whistleblower office is “committed to whistleblowers, and we value the information that they provide.”
