Posted  January 8, 2021
Thank you for voting for the 2020 Whistleblower of the Year. Polls are now closed and we are pleased to announce that Rebekah Jones is our 2020 winner!

Whistleblower Insider wants to hear from you on who should be honored as our 2020 Whistleblower of the Year. As in past years, we are especially interested in those individuals who best encapsulate the qualities of the typical whistleblower — courage, strength, integrity, selflessness and a deep concern for public health and safety. You can choose among the candidates listed below, or identify your own candidate. And please add in the comments section why your candidate is deserving of the honor. Voting will continue through the end of February with results of your top selections to be announced shortly thereafter. Thanks for voting!

Dr. Rick Bright – The former director of the U.S. government research agency pressured the Trump administration for not stocking up on masks and drugs to stop the spread of the coronavirus. He was run out of the government, but sounded the alarm to Congress and the American public. We nominate Dr. Rick Bright for his prescience and bravery against the Trump administration. Read more about Dr. Bright.

Rebekah Jones – A former data scientist for the Florida Department of Health created her own website after refusing to manipulate COVID-19 tracking data to support a political push to reopen Florida after months of quarantine. We nominate Rebekah Jones for her quest for truth and transparency, and the health and safety of all of us. Read more about Jones’ story.

Xavier Justo – He helped unravel one of the biggest corruption scandals in the world: the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) where over $4.5 billion was embezzled by high-level Malaysian officials, including former Prime Minister Najib Razak. We nominate Xavier Justo for his courage, integrity, and determination. Read more about Justo’s story.

Dr. Yasmine Motarjemi – A leading food expert in food safety, Dr. Motarjemi raised concerns about Nestle’s handling of food and safety incident and internal processes. Nestle management refused to pay attention to her internal reporting and avoid the preventable incidents that followed. We nominate Dr. Yasmine Motarjemi for her courage in speaking out against food safety violations and her stamina for achieving historic judgment in the Swiss courts. Read more about Dr. Motarjemi.

Dawn Wooten – As a nurse at an immigration facility, Ms. Wooten came forward to report that multiple woman in the immigration detention were being forced into hysterectomies without their consent. Her report sparked national outrage, inspiring others to come forward. We nominate Dawn Wooten for her courage in speaking out against these practices and sparking congressional investigations into the facility’s practices. Read more about Wooten’s story.

Sophie Zhang – A former Facebook data analyst who resigned in protest over the platform’s failure to root out fake accounts spreading disinformation affecting elections and campaigns in emergent countries outside the U.S. and Western Europe, her protest triggered reform from Facebook, which took measures against malicious activity on the site. • Jennifer says:

Rebekah is NOT a whistleblower! They asked her to TEMPORARILY remove a field within a dataset to ensure it matched other numbers published in the department. This is just good sense. If she was any kind of data scientist (she’s not), she would have full supported this. She is addicted to attention and has duped many people out of their hard earned money. Please stop giving her grift a platform!

  • Stephanie Hannah says:

Release Rebekah Jones! DeSantis is corrupt and is killing us. I vote for her with Rick Bright a close second. Thank you to all who speak the truth.
