Another NJ mayor accuses Christie of political payback – Steven Fulop, mayor of NJ’s second largest city, Jersey City, claims the governor’s administration withdrew promised financial support for the city after Fulop declined to endorse Christie in his re-election campaign. NYT
DOJ intervenes in 8 whistleblower cases against Health Management Associates – The cases, brought under the False Claims Act’s qui tam provisions, all charge the hospital chain with billing the government for medically unnecessary inpatient admissions and paying kickbacks to physicians in exchange for patient referrals. DOJ
Former Rabobank traders charged with fraud for manipulation of yen Libor – in what may be a new era of white collar crime enforcement, the DOJ said it is important to charge the institutions as well as the individuals responsible for this type of misconduct. NYT
Criminal charges unlikely in IRS Tea Party scandal – Anonymous source at the FBI says that scrutiny applied to conservative groups was not against the law, noting that the investigation did not uncover “enemy hunting” or political bias. Reuters
