Virginia ambulance company settles FCA suit for $9M — Medical Transport LLC has settled allegations that it submitted false claims for ambulatory transport to Medicare, Medicaid, and TRICARE. The government alleged that many of these services were not medically necessary and some were billed improperly to federal healthcare programs when they should have been billed to private insurers. Iowa hospital settles FCA suit for $1.88M — Genesis Medical Center has settled allegations that it retained overpayments caused by improperly classifying services performed on Medicare patients as inpatient, when they should have been classified as outpatient or observation status. Services classified as outpatient or observation status yield lower payment rates than inpatient services. USAO Southern District of Iowa
US intervenes in FCA suit against Florida company — The US has filed suit alleging that Central Medical Systems LLC received inflated payments from Medicare for more expensive wound-care products than had been provided to patients or for products that were simply never sent. The suit was brought by a whistleblower, the company’s office manager, in 2014. USAO Middle District of Florida
