Kiriakou says government lacks “guts” to charge leaders with torture —  The human rights abuses revealed in the executive summary of the Senate Intelligence Committee’s torture report sparked global outrage, leaving some begging for senior officials from the George W. Bush administration to be held accountable, but CIA whistleblower John Kiriakou is certain the U.S. government will do nothing of the sort.   Huffington Post

Birkenfeld to testify in France against UBS — Bradley Birkenfeld, who blew the whistle on UBS tax evasion, is traveling to Paris to provide testimony in an ongoing investigation where French judges are probing whether UBS solicited clients in France to open Swiss bank accounts in order to hide money.  Wall Street Journal

USAG Eric Holder asks lawyers to pursue bankers in mortgage fraud — Holder has asked U.S. attorneys involved in residential mortgage-backed securities cases to report in 90 days on whether they can develop cases against individuals, with the intention of providing a report to his successor “to make determinations about whether further action is appropriate.”  Bloomberg

Owner of home health company pleads guilty to $13M Medicare fraud scheme — Miami-based Longcare home health company purported to provide home health and therapy services to Medicare beneficiaries, but its owner admitted the company actually operated for the purpose of billing the Medicare program for, among other things, expensive physical therapy and home health care services that were not medically necessary or not provided at all.   DOJ

Whistleblower reward in Maine CDC case –The state will pay a total of $250,000 to a whistleblower, a co-worker, and their attorney in a document-shredding case involving the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention.  Press Herald
