Sheldon Silver arrested on charges of corruption – Mr. Silver, speaker of the State Assembly, was allegedly paid millions for bogus legal work and referral fees and steered public money to help those who would privately help him in return, ultimately converting $500,000 in public money into over $3 million in personal riches.  NYT

Weavering boss sentenced for $535M fraud —  Magnus Peterson, former head of UK hedge fund Weavering, was sentenced to a total of 13 years in jail on Friday after being found guilty on eight counts of fraud, forgery, false accounting and fraudulent trading.  Reuters

Ex-Athletes Sue UNC and N.C.A.A. — Two former UNC athletes filed a lawsuit against their alma mater and the N.C.A.A. accusing them of academic fraud and failing to fulfill their stated missions of educating athletes. NYT

Whistleblower sues Baker Botts for outing him – Potential whistleblower accuses the firm of “gross negligence” for allegedly turning his confidential and privileged email seeking representation over to his employer, the Texas Commission on Environmental quality, which got him fired.  Houston Press

Snowden warns of iPhone spying capabilities —  Edward Snowden’s attorney says Snowden will not use the iPhone because it “has special software that can activate itself without the owner having to press a button and gather information about him, that’s why on security grounds he refused to have this phone.” SC Magazine UK
