Brazilian companies settle bribery charges for $3.5B – Brazil-based global construction conglomerate Odebrecht S.A., and Brazilian petrochemical company Braskem S.A. pled guilty and agreed to pay $3.5B to resolve US, Brazilian, and Swiss charges arising out of the companies’ involvement in a scheme to bribe government officials worldwide. Pope Francis pardons Vatican whistleblower – Pope Francis pardoned Spanish priest Monsignor Lucio Vallejo Balda, who was serving an 18-month sentence in Vatican jail for leaking financially-sensitive documents in 2013. International Business Times UK

Ex-employees allege Illinois nursing home tried to mislead inspectors on abuse – Two social workers filed suit alleging a suburban nursing home fired them for refusing to fabricate medical records related to incidents of patient abuse; their patient-abuse allegations led the Illinois Department of Public Health to cite the nursing home for safety breaches.
