Minnesota dermatologist settles FCA suit for $850K—Dr. Michael Ebert and his company, Skin Care Doctors, P.A., have settled allegations that they billed Medicare for free samples and upcoded office visits, lesion removal procedures, and photo therapy services.  The case was brought by a whistleblower, a doctor that formerly worked with Ebertz, who will receive an award. SEC awards $4.1M to whistleblower—The award was made to a company insider who alerted the Commission to a widespread, multi-year securities violation. The whistleblower is a foreign national working outside the US. SEC

20 people charged in $146M healthcare fraud—20 people and 14 corporations have been charged in a scheme that involved the defendants paying patients to come to clinics to receive unnecessary medical tests, which were then billed to Medicare and Medicaid. The defendants spent their profits on real estate, lavish vacations, a $3.25M penthouse, and designer watches and handbags. Wall Street Journal
