Score One for the Bank Whistle-Blowers – A recent Supreme Court decision on an important bank whistleblower case essentially confirms that some courts have been using too narrow a legal standard in determining what constitutes a false claim. Dermatologist Who Settled Federal Lawsuit Plans to Sue Whistleblower – Dr. Gary Marder who recently settled a lawsuit accusing him of misdiagnosing patients announced plans to sue a whistleblower and several media outlets for defamation and libel. Assembly Square Station Contractors Inflated Pay Estimates for Project – A contractor and subcontractor working with the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (“MBTA”) agreed to pay $420,000 to resolve allegations that they knowingly submitted “false and inflated pay estimates” under the Massachusetts False Claims Act.
