State Street to pay $530 million to resolve charges it engaged in foreign exchange fraud – The move will settle multiple federal and private actions against the company regarding allegations that it overcharged pensions, mutual funds, and other investors that were first raised by the same whistleblower who sounded the alarm about Bernie Madoff.  The Boston Globe

Syrian aid programs put on ice after whistleblowers report problems – Over 100 complaints of fraud and abuse have led to the suspension of over $200 million in contracts intended to provide medicine, food, and other critical supplies to people in the war torn region.  Washington Post

Pittsburgh hospital partially settles False Claims Act lawsuit for $2.5 million – The settlement resolves allegations that the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and three related entities billed Medicare for neurosurgeons’ services that were never provided; whistleblowers that brought the case intend to pursue the remaining allegations that the hospital billed for unnecessary surgeries and improperly inflated the number of procedures performed at its facilities.  Tribune-Review
