Vanderbilt Medical Center settles $6.5M FCA case – Vanderbilt University Medical Center will pay $6.5M to settle allegations—brought by a whistleblower in a non-intervened FCA case—that three physicians at Vanderbilt’s surgical center violated Medicare billing rules related to surgery scheduling practices. Fairfield, CA settles wrongful termination suit with whistleblower for $80K – The city of Fairfield, California agreed to pay $80K to settle allegations it wrongfully terminated former city employee David Samloff, who blew the whistle on the city’s mishandling of HUD funds; Samloff’s whistleblowing culminated in a $680K FCA recovery in 2016, of which Samloff received $129K. Healthcare CEO pay rises with healthcare costs – A new analysis reveals that since the 2010 passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), 70 healthcare CEOs have collectively earned $9.8B. Overall, the 70 individuals have averaged 11% annual increases in pay, well above the American average. The report also noted that in part because healthcare executives are not financially incentivized to control costs, such costs continue to grow significantly faster than the inflation rate. Axios
