World Health Organization says environmental factors like pollution cause a quarter of deaths — The report “found that environmental risk factors accounted for about 12.6 million deaths out of a total of 55.6 million. One of the biggest scourges was air pollution, which caused not only lung and respiratory infections but also heart disease and cancer.”  NYT

 Feds order JPMorgan to reinstate whistleblower — OSHA ordered the bank to reinstate an employee who was fired for raising concerns over the firm’s failure to properly report financial transactions to government regulators, and to pay him about $200,000 in back pay, medical expenses and compensatory damages.  ABC

 Hayner Hoyt to pay $5M to settle whistleblower charges of False Claims Act violations — The whistleblower and government alleged the government contractor and its senior executives “engaged in conduct designed to exploit contracting opportunities reserved for service-disabled veterans.”  DOJ

 Colombia police scandal whistleblower flees from captors — Captain Anyelo Palacios “has been at the centre of a scandal involving Colombia’s national police since he told reporters he had been abused as a young cadet by a male prostitution ring operating within the force.”  BBC

Nursing home investigator claims supervisors forced her to close cases — “A San Diego nursing home whistleblower claims she was ordered to close cases prematurely by supervisors at the state’s Department of Health.”  ABC

SEC charges CEO for touting bogus “clean energy” contracts with foreign governments — The agency claims RVPlus Inc. CEO Cary Lee Peterson falsely claimed “to have a lucrative relationship with the United Nations and billions of dollars in clean energy contracts with foreign governments.”  SEC
