Connecticut substance abuse providers settle FCA suit for over $1.3M — New Era Rehabilitation Center and two of its employees have settled allegations that the “unbundled” methadone maintenance services to generate higher reimbursements from the Medicaid program. The clinic also settled allegations that it billed for psychotherapy services that it never provided to patients. USAO Connecticut
Pennsylvania hospital self-discloses healthcare fraud, pays $373K — Charles Cole Memorial Hospital has settled issues arising from two self-disclosures it made to DHHS OIG. The first self-disclosure focused on the misuse of a billing modifier used in pain management, orthopedics, gastroenterology, and oncology practice groups. The second self-disclosure focused on a failure to provide required visits to hospice patients. USAO Middle District of Pennsylvania
DC city officials accused of tuition fraud — According to a lawsuit filed by the DC Attorney General, several DC city employees who live outside the District, sent their children to DC public schools while falsifying addresses. The suit seeks over $800k in back tuition under the District’s FCA. In 2016, the District won a similar suit against two of its police officers. NBC
