Construction contractor settles FCA suit for $4.6M – Tucker, Georgia company Energy & Process Corp (E&P) settled allegations it supplied defective steel reinforcing bars to the federal government in connection with a contract on an Energy Department (DOE) nuclear waste treatment facility. The DOE alleges that a full third of the contractor-supplied bars were defective. A former employee of the prime DOE contractor that subcontracted with E&P brought the case. Concrete Products

US authorities ask Wal-Mart for $300M FCPA settlement – Retail giant Wal-Mart allegedly paid bribes in exchange for permits allowing the company to open stores in Mexico, Brazil, India, and China. Several issues remain to be resolved before the settlement will be final, including whether the retailer will be permitted to keep government contracts and continue to accept food stamps at its locations. DC Metro’s new watchdog promises to root out fraud and corruption – DC Metro Inspector General Geoff Cherrington, who came to Metro after 33 years in federal investigatory roles in agencies ranging from the Army  to the USDA, has pledged to bring “police techniques, old-fashioned gumshoe policing, and advanced technology” to fight against fraud, corruption, mismanagement, and waste in the DC transit agency.
