Snowden calls for whistleblower shield after claims by new Pentagon source – NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden advocates for a total shield for whistleblowers after allegations the Pentagon retaliated against a former employee, which in Snowden’s view dismissed claims of major establishment figures that he had internal routes to address his concerns rather than leak the information to the media. SEC issues third whistleblower award in a week – The SEC announced a whistleblower award of more than $450,000 to two whistleblowers for a tip leading to a successful corporate accounting investigation. This award concluded a week where the SEC awarded more than $10 million. Wall St. Journal

Federal judge insists Chicago mayor testify about policy code of silence – Officials from the City of Chicago were prepared to admit that a code of silence exists in the Chicago police department in an effort to keep Mayor Rahm Emanuel from testifying but district court judge Gary Feinerman stated he would still ask Emanuel to testify to offer “more texture” on the issue. Whistleblower alleges Roper St. Francis hospitals were over-paid by feds – North Carolina whistleblower Joseph Vincoli alleges that over thirty hospitals inflated expenses to the government resulting in the hospitals receiving millions of dollars they should not have been paid. Santa Fe judge tosses Las Cruces judge’s whistleblower suit – A New Mexico state judge was deemed not to be a public employee entitled to whistleblower protections under New Mexico law after bringing a case against the state in relation to retaliation she allegedly suffered following her role in a 2011 bribery case against another judge.
