Florida pain clinic settles FCA suit for $1.2M — Riverside Spine & Pain has settled allegations that it billed Medicare and Medicaid for urine tests that were medically unnecessary. The company was using expensive quantitative drug tests for all patients. Quantitative tests determine the exact amount of drugs in a patient’s urine, while qualitative tests determine whether there are any traces of a drug in the urine. Routine quantitative testing for all patients is generally unnecessary. The whistleblower who revealed the fraud will receive an award of $240k. USAO Middle District of Florida

Walmart settles FCA case for $825k — The company has settled allegations that it violated the FCA and the Minnesota FCA by submitting claims for payment to Minnesota’s Medicaid program in violation of rules prohibiting billing Medicaid for automatically-refilled prescriptions.
