IRS Awards Equifax $7.25 Million Fraud-Prevention Contract – “The IRS will pay Equifax $7.25 million to verify taxpayer identities and help prevent fraud under a no-bid contract issued last week, even as lawmakers lash the embattled company about a massive security breach that exposed personal information of as many as 145.5 million Americans.” Politico

SEC Charges Two in Penny-Stock Scheme – “The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged two individuals with defrauding investors in penny stock companies that claimed to have valuable patents.  One of those charged had been barred from the penny stock business based on his role in another securities scheme and neither he nor his companies had ever been issued any patents by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the SEC alleged.” SEC

Catholic Priest Sentenced for Tax Evasion and Bank Fraud – “According to documents and information provided to the court, from 2008 through 2011, Hien Minh Nguyen stole money that his parishioners donated to the Diocese of San Jose through cash and checks made as offerings during religious services.  He deposited such checks into his personal bank account and used the funds for his benefit.” DOJ
