US rewards international whistleblowers for help in uncovering fraud — The US is putting out a call to international whistleblowers saying they are best positioned to uncover schemes involving fraudulent bills submitted to the U.S. government, tax evasion, and/or securities fraud involving U.S. companies. US files lawsuit alleging Guild Mortgage improperly originated and underwrote FHA-insured loans — The complaint alleges that Guild knowingly submitted claims for hundreds of improperly underwritten FHA-insured loans and that Guild grew its FHA lending business by ignoring FHA rules and falsely certifying compliance with underwriting requirements. Illinois mayor settles muni bond fraud charges — The mayor of Harvey, Illinois, has agreed to pay $10,000 and never participate in a municipal bond offering again as part of settling fraud charges alleging he sold bonds to build a hotel, but then diverted at least $1.7 million from the sale proceeds to payroll and other operational costs.
