E.U. charges Google with violating antitrust laws — The European Union’s antitrust chief on Wednesday formally accused Google of abusing its dominance in web searches to the detriment of competitors and began official proceedings into whether its Android smartphone software forces phone makers to favor the company’s own services and applications. VA whistleblower employees tell Congress they have been harassed – Whistleblowers at the Department of Veterans Affairs tell Congress that they were demoted, then moved into windowless storage rooms for speaking out, other whistleblowers said they found their medical backgrounds scrutinized, and even their mental health and personal lives investigated, and that those who retaliated against them were rarely punished. UK watchdog fines Bank of New York Mellon $185M — The Financial Conduct Authority levied the hefty fine on Bank of New York Mellon’s London branch, and on Bank of New York Mellon International Limited, for failing to keep customer money safe during the beginning of the financial crisis through August 2013. Donor in Bob Menendez case indicted on Medicare fraud — Florida ophthalmologist Salomon Melgen, who has been charged with corruption along with New Jersey Democratic Senator Bob Menendez, was indicted on Tuesday with 46 counts of healthcare fraud, as well as 19 counts of fraudulent claims, and 11 counts of making false statements relating to health care. Ex-Freddie Mac executives settle SEC fraud lawsuit — Former Freddie Mac Chief Executive Officer Richard Syron and two other executives have agreed to settle the SEC’s lawsuit accusing them of misleading investors ahead of the 2008 financial crisis. Reuters
