Read the Second Place Winner’s Essay in Constantine Cannon’s Law School Scholarship Contest

Constantine Cannon is excited to share the second place essay in our first annual Scholarship Essay Writing Contest.  The contest asked entrants to discuss the importance of whistleblowers.  Our second place winner, Hannah Fitzmorris, wrote about the IRS Whistleblower Reward Program which “empowers ordinary citizens in positions of relative power disadvantage to utilize the tools of morality and duty of citizenship and disrupt cycles of corruption, corporate immorality, and greed.”  Ms. Fitzmorris spent five years as a paralegal for a law firm handling tax controversies, where she discovered that “the people most concerned with meeting their [tax] obligations, coming up with a payment plan, and paying what they owe were the most financially disadvantaged.”  This inspired her “respect and support of those who are working to even the playing field and shift the focus of enforcement and collections toward those with more than enough means to be paying, but who have the resources to intentionally find ways not to.”  We couldn’t agree more.  Click here to read the full essay.  Congratulations, Ms. Fitzmorris!  Stay tuned for next week, when we’ll share our first place winner.  And don’t forget to check out our third, fourth, and fifth place winners.
