Two companies settle allegations of fraud on developmental disabilities program for $2M – Alternative Learning Center and Adult Educational Technologies settled allegations they billed California’s Department of Developmental Services (DDS) for services they never rendered. The companies also allegedly fraudulently retained overpayments and falsified documents to reflect never-rendered services as rendered. The case was brought by a whistleblower, who will receive 20% of the settlement. Eastern District of California

Oklahoma doctor settles FCA suit for $580K – Dr. Gordon Laird settled allegations he submitted false claims to Medicare for services he did not provide. Dr. Laird allegedly let two companies he owned or was employed by, Blackwell Feet Plus and Prevention Plus, use his NPI number to bill for evaluation and management services he neither performed nor supervised. Tennessee medical transportation company settles FCA suit for $550K – Employment & Assessment Solutions, Inc. (EASI) settled allegations it falsely billed Medicare and TennCare for services it never provided. EASI submitted bills for transportation of patients who were hospitalized or incarcerated at the time. The company, and its principal, have agreed to a nine-year exclusion from all Federally funded healthcare programs. Middle District of Tennessee
