Missouri sheriff sues state auditor for not releasing whistleblower complaints — The sheriff of Greene County, Missouri has sued the state auditor to release documents related to allegations that the county misused public funds to advocate for an increased sales tax.  In refusing to turn over certain documents, the state auditor has cited her legal obligation to protect the identity of whistleblowers. Springfield News-Leader

Minnesota Chiropractor, Patient Recruiters Found Guilty of Insurance Fraud — A federal jury found a chiropractor and his recruiters guilty of an insurance fraud conspiracy that involved paying “runners” to rush to the site of automobile accidents and bring victims in for chiropractic treatment. The chiropractor paid the runners between $1,000 and $2,000 per patient.  Insurance Journal

$26 billion in fines and 28 jail sentences: How global regulators are cracking down on financial crime — Business Insider reports that new research by risk analysis firm Corlytics indicates that authorities world-wide are stepping up their efforts to stamp-out financial fraud. “Making individuals responsible for their own actions through threat of penalties is becoming a favourite mechanism for regulators to improve compliance with market conduct regulation,” said John Byrne, CEO at Corlytics. Business Insider
