SEC brings first whistleblower retaliation action — Paradigm Capital and its owner agreed to pay $2.2M for engaging in prohibited transactions and then sought retribution against the employee who reported the illicit trading activity. Compliance Week
New study shows insider trading runs rampant — According to the detailed study by professors from NYU and McGill Universities, which examined hundreds of transactions over the past 15 years, a quarter of all public company deals may involve some kind of insider trading. NYT
Missouri ballot on NSA surveillance – Inspired by Snowden, two republican senators added a ballot to the August 5 primary that will allow Missourians to vote on whether the government shall be allowed to access their electronic communications without a search warrant. Riverfront Times
GM recalls millions more vehicles over ignition defects – The recall of over 3 million cars is related to the problems that spurred the massive recall earlier this year for ignition defects long-known by GM and linked to at least 13 deaths. Denver Post
