Florida College settles FCA case for $600k — Florida Technical College has resolved allegations that one of its campuses falsely certified compliance with federal student aid programs and submitted claims for 27 ineligible students. Specifically, the school provided false documentation that the students had a high school diploma or GED, which they did not. USAO Southern District of Florida

SEC drops FCPA probe of energy firm — The SEC announced that it would not take any action against Cobalt International Energy, which has been under investigation since 2011. The investigations focused on Cobalt’s relationship with Sonangol, the Angolan state-owned oil company. Cobalt filed for bankruptcy last December. Wall Street Journal

Oregon State Senator introduces bill to expand whistleblower protections — The legislation was inspired by the firing of an Oregon Department of Transportation official, who had reported safety problems, in 2013. The bill would allow public sector employees to remain anonymous when blowing the whistle, and would set up a complaint reporting procedure. US News & World Report
