Tennessee chiropractor settles FCA suit for $1.45M — Matthew Anderson has settled allegations that his pain management clinics caused pharmacies to submit false claims to Medicare and Medicaid for opioid prescriptions which had no legitimate medical purpose. Anderson’s clinics were also accused of upcoding visits, and fraudulently billing for nurse time under the rates that applied to doctor time. The case was brought by a whistleblower, a former office manager at one of the clinics, who will receive an award of $246K. Maryville Daily Times

Ohio doctors charged with overbilling insurers — Drs. Ashis Rakhit and Jayati Rakhit, who are married, are accused of ordering and performing unnecessary medical tests and procedures, as well as illegally distributing opioids.
